Do you want to become more self-confident? Then it’s helpful to regularly say something nice and positive to yourself, a ‘positive reinforcer’. Maybe it sounds a little contrived to you, but it really helps. When you say something nice, positive to yourself it works its way into your brain. The more you practice doing it the better it works. It is a kind of re-programming of your thoughts that makes you feel stronger. In this blog, 25 phrases to boost your self-confidence.

Becoming more confident with positive statements

Suppose a colleague of yours is busy and asks you to take a call from him. You do so immediately, and as you pick up the phone, he smiles and raises his thumb. Something like that does you good. It feels good to help him. This colleague uses positive reinforcers.

It encourages desired behavior

A positive reinforcer encourages and reinforces desired behavior. So that thumb and smile are positive reinforcers of your behavior. This increases the likelihood that you will help him again next time. A compliment is another example of a positive reinforcer that we use in our social interactions with each other.
