Want passionate employees who work with drive? 3 ideas
Ever rented a car? And did you wash the car briefly before returning it? Probably not. It’s actually the same way at work. People are much more likely to do something extra at work if they feel engaged. But how can you increase the chances of getting more engaged employees who work with passion. In this blog, three helpful tips/ideas.
What is engagement?
Engagement at work occurs more likely when something is yours or feels yours. Or when you feel that what you do at work matters. Engagement is a positive state of supreme satisfaction, characterized by vitality, dedication and absorption/ absorption in the work. (Bakker, 2011). How can you stimulate and increase this engagement in your people?

But….., you may say, I have already done so much to make my people comfortable:
- You have already assembled a good team, with a lot and special talent;
- All unnecessary activities and opposing barriers that get in the way of working together you already have addressed;
- You have made your meetings so effective that decisions are actually made within your team.
Yet something is missing…..
A sense of commitment is missing
Your people lack a kind of sense of commitment. You notice this in the day-to-day operations. The things you have already addressed (good team with special talent, etc.) turn out not to be so important after all to make the difference between just good employees and inspired employees.
Employees who work with passion are contagious
When you work among inspired employees, this positivity is more likely to influence other employees and the organization. Engagement is contagious. The effects within an organization are great:
- more positive emotions;
- more mental and physical health;
- contagiousness component which can have an effect on the performance of a team or organization;
- more creativity;
- loyalty to the organization;
- more customer friendliness;
- inspiring people.

3 ideas for more inspired employees
There are three key things you could focus on to boost engagement inside your Staff. Stop talking about more engagement and just start today with these simple suggestions.
1. Talk more about impact instead of money
Where shareholders are in love with money, employees are more interested in the impact the product or service has on society. So they look beyond just the financial result. More specifically, this is becoming increasingly important for the younger generation, the GEN X,Y and Z-ers. These people are increasingly becoming part of your organization and that will only grow.
Shell’s status as an employer of choice for engineering students is a thing of the past. Young, highly educated technicians mostly prefer sustainable companies. They do not want to work at a company that bets on old energy sources such as oil and gas.

Tip: Talk in your team (for example, in the work meeting) about the impact the product or service has on society. For example, how a product promotes health or safety.
2. Appreciate a ‘red’ manager as much as a ‘blue’ manager
People prefer to work for red, inspiring managers. Research shows that professionals who work with red managers are more committed, satisfied and productive.
The red manager also provides better retention of your staff. People stay with your organization longer. (Of course, you need blue managers there, too.) You might consider valuing both red and blue (behavioral) elements equally in a manager’s profile. It might also be an idea to further train your managers in red traits.

3. Cultivate ambassadorship among your people
Maybe your EES (Employee Engagement Survey) shows that your people are satisfied but don’t really feel engaged yet. Satisfied employees come to work every day, do their thing and even enjoy it. They work with passion. Going the extra mile is just different and characterizes the engaged employee.
A good way to measure engagement is to find out the willingness of your people to recommend their work to friends and family. The more this happens, the higher your people’s engagement is.
Encouraging inspired employees is golden
Maybe you interpret engagement as something “soft”. But it is simply rock-solid measurable and very powerful. It could well be the missing link for your continued growth as an organization, your ability to attract good and quality staff and for more vitality in the workplace.
